Prescription Hearing Aids
Choosing the Right Hearing Technology to Accompany Your Treatment Plan Based on Your Unique Circumstances, Lifestyle, and Budget.
Nobody grows up looking forward to the day that they can buy their first pair of prescription hearing aids, yet with hearing loss now affecting 1 in 5 Americans and the World Health Organization predicting that hearing loss will double by 2050, they’re the solution that hundreds of thousands of people turn to every year.
But with the latest technology being significantly different to the large, clunky devices that you may remember from yesteryear, you’ll be surprised at just how small and discreet the latest hearing devices are.
Owner, Daniel Hewson has been wearing prescription hearing aids since 1977 and in his own words says, “Today’s technology compared to technology just ten years ago is the polar opposite, yet many of us have the older devices etched into our minds.”.
What surprises many of our patients is just how invisible the latest technology is, with them often reporting that their friends, family, and colleagues didn’t even notice that they were wearing them.
With incredibly powerful features, incredible clarity for speech recognition, and the ability to seamlessly connect with your cell phone, television, and computer, the latest technology doesn’t just amplify your hearing, but it also amplifies your life.
What Our Delighted Patients Say
The Different Styles of Prescription Hearing Aids
BTE hearing aids are the largest and most powerful instruments available, because they have more circuit options capable of producing more power and performance than other custom fit units. The technology for BTEs is contained in a casing that sits on the back of your ear and connects to the ear canal using nearly invisible plastic tubing. This tubing carries amplified sounds to an earmold made by making an ear impression of your ear to create a component that perfectly replicates your ear’s size and shape.
Open Fit (Mini BTE)
An Open Fit, or Mini-BTE, sits behind your ear, like larger BTE’s, but is much smaller and more discrete. In place of an earmold, the mini’s receiver transmits sound to an open earbud that rests deep inside your ear canal where it can’t be seen. The earpiece comes in preformed dome arrangements or can be custom formed. Individuals with a mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss are a good fit for Mini BTEs, which come in plenty of color options, including skin tone matching.
RITE hearing aids closely resemble Open Fit/ Mini-BTE units. The primary difference is the location of the receiver, which is removed from the behind- the- ear casing and placed inside a casing that can be custom-formed to fit your ear canal or chosen among standard sizes and shapes. These instruments also come in a wide variety of colors and shapes.
Many wearers who wear glasses or receive supplemental oxygen through a cannula prefer ITE instruments, which eliminate the casing placed behind the ear. A custom-formed plastic shell housing the instrument’s technology fits in the outer opening of your ear canal. You can get ITE devices in various sizes to fit the larger outer ear or further into the opening.
Fitting further into the ear, ITC devices are molded for deeper insertion without filling up as much of the space in the outer portion of the ear. although more discrete, their use requires fine dexterity in order to adjust volume control wheels and other controls, which are integrated into a very small area.
A clear plastic post allows for the insertion of CIC devices deeper into the ear canal than their ITC counterparts. Much less visible than other styles of hearing aids, they are so small that they do not include manual controls, making them simpler to use, but requiring more dexterity for insertion.
